When you have ileostomy surgery, you need to prevent some
foods in the initial days. However, it does not mean it will be for the rest of
your life. In the initial days of the surgery, doctors recommend the food that
is easy to digest. As your intestine is hurt, your abdomen is hurt, you have to
eat small meals and soft food. You should eat vegetables and fruits after
having surgery. But, there is no reason to avoid your favorite meal for the
ostomy. An ostomy does not affect your health, and the food you will take after
having the surgery does not affect your body or stoma. However, if you have any
other diseases like diabetes, heart problem, cancer, or any other chronic
disease, then you need to be vigilant. If you have a health issue, you should
eat after the doctor’s recommendation. Else, there is no reason to give up on
the food.
As I mentioned in the above para, you have to limit your
diet in the first few weeks of the surgery. In the initial days, your doctor
will suggest you low-residue diet. It will contain soft foods and small meals.
You can digest the food items easily. Moreover, the low-residue diet is low in
fiber and high in minerals and vitamins. The food will low the high fiber in
the body. Therefore, your doctors will suggest some raw fruits and vegetables.
The doctor will recommend you some dairy products, white rice, white bread with
no nuts, fish, egg, banana, watermelon, honeydew, and some other soft fruits.
After a few weeks of the ileostomy surgery, you can eat
whatever you want. However, you should follow the prescription of your doctor.
If he restricted you to some specific foods, do not eat them.
When your doctor allows you to eat each and everything
you want, you should not eat at once. You should eat one food you have not
eaten since the surgery. Eat a small portion of your favorite meal. Chew your
food well. If you feel any problem with the little section of your diet,
consult your doctor. You may feel vomit, cramps, odor, or diarrhea. You should
give up your small portions and continue after a few more weeks of the surgery.
Maybe you should try your favorite meals after six months or more. Take little
segments of your food and once in a day, whenever you will eat your food. For
the rest of the day, you only eat fruits, salads, eggs, and milk.
Balanced
Diet Plan
In a day, you have to consume proper fats, proteins,
carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. You cannot avoid any of them. You have
to maintain your diet and balance the meals. You have to consume all the
above-mentioned minerals daily. For that, you should eat fruits, vegetables,
milk, fish, egg, meat, high protein cereals, white bread, white rice, and fresh
juices daily. Touch every food I have mentioned. Take small bites and sips, but
you should not avoid any of them. If you are eating an egg, then you can avoid
fish. In this way, you have to maintain your diet. You cannot avoid the need
for mineral, calcium, and vitamin. You can only choose alternative soft food.
Moreover, you should not eat gastric meals. You should
avoid the foods that create the odor of gas. It can trouble you. The gastric
meals can result in the smell and cramps. You should avoid oily eateries. Apart
from the oily meals, you should avoid food which is hard to digest. For
example, nuts, kernel, some pulses, corn, popcorn, coconut, Chinese vegetables,
coleslaw, and celery.
